Due to the flintlock gun, Japan during the edo period, decided top close japan to all foreigners, because they were too afraid of Japanese traditions (like the samurai), fading away. This decision was not just to project Japan and it's culture & traditions, it was also to help keep the Tokugawa shogunate in power.
